Cellular immunity in progressive systemic sclerosis (scleroderma).

چکیده
Progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) or scleroderma is a multisystem disease which is usually grouped with other systemic rheumatic or connective tissue disorders. As a class these conditions are believed to result, at least in part, from aberrant immunity (Rodnan, 1971). Previous studies have demonstrated that a significant percentage of affected patients develop a spectrum of autoantibodies, including antinuclear antibodies and rheumatoid factor (Rothfield and Rodnan, 1968; Beck, Anderson, Gray, and Rowell, 1963; Selignann, Cannat, and Hamard, 1965). However, to date, there has been no systematic investigation of cell-mediated immunity in this *disorder. The present investigation constitutes an evaluation of two parameters of this immune defence mechanism: the ability to manifest a cutaneous delayed hypersensitivity reaction and the in vitro lymphoproliferative response to the non-specific mitogen phytohaemagglutinin (PHA).

Systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder of unknown etiologycharacterized b y pronounced fibroproliferative alterations in the microvasculature, and frequent cellular and humoral immunity abnormalities, culminating in a severe and often progressive fibrotic process. Numerous biomarkers reflecting the three main pathogenetic mechanisms in systemic sclerosis have been described; ...
متن کاملA Case Report of Small Cell Lung Carcinoma in a Patient with Progressive Diffuse Sclerosis
Connective tissue diseases, including scleroderma, may be associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. The most common type of lung cancer associated with systemic sclerosis is adenocarcinoma or bronchoalveolar carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma is rare. This reports presents a 54-year-old non-smoker woman with a history of scleroderma who was examined due to aggravation of shortness of ...

Cell-mediated immunity to skin extracts was studied by the macrophage migration inhibition test, lymphocyte transformation, and direct cytotoxicity to skin fibroblasts, in normal individuals and patients with progressive systemic sclerosis. The latter included 18 individuals with diffuse scleroderma and 12 with the CREST syndrome, a variant form of systemic sclerosis in which there is more limi...

ABSTRACT Systemic sclerosis classified to limited and diffuse types. Skin and visceral involvement is more sever and progressive in diffuse form and also pericardial effusion is more frequent in diffuse type of disease. There is only few case reports of symptomatic pericardial effusion in limited type. In this article we represented a case of limited systemic sclerosis (scleroderma...

Systemic sclerosis is a disease of unknown origin characterized by excessive deposition of collagen and other connective tissue macromolecules in skin and multiple internal organs, prominent and often severe alterations in the microvasculature, and humoral and cellular immunologic abnormalities (see Glossary). Systemic sclerosis is a complex and heterogeneous disease. Clinical forms range from ...
